Paul Cater Deaton is an award-winning Writer, Producer, Director and Cinematographer, based in the Virgin Islands and Batavia, Illinois. Shooting on six continents over three decades, Paul has earned numerous industry accolades.
He was one of the original filmmakers approached to produce content for Ocean in Google Earth, which launched in February, 2009. Paul produced pieces for the Red Sea, Mediterranean, Western Indian Ocean, Great Barrier Reef, the Philippines, the Coral Triangle, and Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean Sea focus areas. His perspectives bring unique insights to the project, and he has been asked to continue providing content for future versions.
Paul engages in productions ranging from commercials, music videos and documentaries to TV programs and full-length motion pictures. His work has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, BBC, MTV, CMT, HBO, VH1, ESPN, Fox, Nickelodeon, Showtime, TV2 Caribbean, Austin Music Network, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Tri-Star, Veronica Broadcasting (The Netherlands), ARD German Television, Planete TV (Poland), Beatty Satellite (Saudi Arabia), Proxima (Bulgaria), Caribbean Broadcasting Union, the Travel Channel, DirecTV, Comedy Central, E! Entertainment TV, Bravo, Ocean in Google Earth, and at the United Nations.
Deaton is on the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of the Virgin Islands. He is a member of the American Advertising Federation, Boston Sea Rovers, Diving Equipment and Marketing Association, Divers Alert Network, National Association of Underwater Instructors, Underwater Archaeological Society of Chicago, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East. He was honored by Rotary International with a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2004.
His underwater camera skills were honed in oceans and seas all over the world. Paul specializes in production relative to SCUBA diving and adventure travel, and is a highly sought-after Underwater Camera Operator. He is a SCUBA Instructor and expert Rescue Diver, certified in Nitrox and Rebreathers, and has thousands of hours of underwater camera experience. Paul is a popular speaker and emcee, making appearances from coast to coast to coast. He is also lead singer for The Wetsuits, the world's only All Underwater Photographers Band! The Wetsuits have played such prestigious events as Film Festival After-Parties at Chicago's Our World - Underwater, and Beneath the Sea, in New York.
